LadyBug... due June 29, 2021LadyBug was born on our farm (in front of a crowd of visitors) 6 years ago.
LadyBug has had one other cria. Her first, born 3 years ago, was a spunky dark brown male named Hank (who is now owned by Mad Caper Farm in Arlington). LadyBug has been bred to our newly acquired herdsire, Grapplin Farms Brock. Brock is a large and handsome rose gray male. He has sired one other cria at his previous residence, but this will be the first on our farm. Brock is rose gray in color, and combined with LadyBugs light fawn color, we are hopeful that we might get a rose gray cria. We can't wait to see the result of this pairing - and we expect her cria to arrive any day now! UPDATE: On July 22 (at 368 days gestation!), LadyBug delivered a male cria. |
We add Sweet Mariska to the list, though we aren't sure if she is pregnant or not. She was bred last summer, but we did not have our vet out to do ultrasounds to confirm pregnancy. Shearing is sometimes revealing... and sometimes not, so with Mariska we will watch and wait!
An excellent mom, Sweet Mariska is 12 years old and has given birth to 3 crias - LadyBug, Alonzo, and Cole. Mariska was bred to Sweet Pines Model T. Model T has sired 2 other crias - Gracie and Levi - both born last year. Model T is black in color and has lovely, soft fiber. Though Mariska is fawn in color, she has black in her background, so the potential for a black cria is there! Our fingers crossed on this one... |
Laurel... due August 10, 2021Laurel! Sweet, quiet Laurel is one of our favorite girls. Laurel is 11 years old and is a terrific alpaca mama! She has given us 2 other crias - Alladin and Angus - both 'herdsire quality' males, and both light fawn in color just like Laurel.
Laurel (like LadyBug) has also been bred to our new herdsire, Grapplin Farms Brock. Brock is rose gray and Laurel is fawn, so the potential for a rose gray cria is there. Our biggest hope is that Laurel has a girl this time! UPDATE: Sadly, on July 10 (30 days before her due date), Laurel delivered a stillborn cria. |
Lotus... due August 14, 2021Lotus is 10 years old has been on our farm for a few years now. We bought her for her lovely fiber and for the need for some genetic diversity in our herd. But since she has been here, we have had trouble breeding her, so we are thrilled that she has finally had a successful breeding and baby coming soon! Lotus is medium fawn in color with white markings on her face.
She was bred to our own Alladin (you may have seen mention of Alladin in Laurel's write-up above). Alladin just begun his breeding career in 2019, so has just one other offspring to date - Little Sandy Farris (who we just love). We look forward to Lotus's first offspring on our farm, and to a second offspring for Alladin! |
